That's Life

I believe a man's coolness is measured by the amount of Sinatra he listens to. Frank nails it.

Going to Fist City with the Van Lear Rose

Lynn grew up in Butcher Hollow, a section of Van Lear, a mining community near Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky. Her mother, Clara, was of Scots-Irish and Cherokee ancestry. Her father, Ted, was a coal miner, storekeeper, and farmer. Growing up with such humble roots had a huge effect on Lynn's life and heavily influenced her music as an adult. Her autobiography describes how, during her childhood, the community had no motor vehicles, paved roads, or flush toilets.

Carmelita...Hold Me Tighter

I'm just in a musical frame of mind today. Two versions of a fantastic song written by Warren Zevon.

This one is by Dwight Yoakam.

And this one I just found on Youtube. I don't know the gal's name. But it's amazing!

Greatest Rock Vocal Ever?

Putting this into context, and remembering this was cut in 1957, and that the world had never heard anything like this before, this very well might be the best rock vocal ever. And perhaps the worst rock video ever. Life is funny like that. I can only imagine what the people around Elvis in the studio were thinking when this came out of his mouth. Goosebumps. That's what I get when I hear this.

Just Some Background Noise

While you peruse the Big Feed.

My kid came home today with the lunch rate sheet for his school. And this is what it said:

Hard Working Americans that pay the most income and property taxes and carry their own weight as well as others $2.00

For the working poor, maybe you had more babies than you can afford or you didn't finish school, or maybe life's handed you a bad hand, or maybe your just temporarily down on your luck $0.40

Illegal aliens and those that don't work at all: $ Free

And that's how we roll in the U.S.A. Forever rewarding the lazy and punishing the hard workers. Some incentive plan.

There's a Fever in the Funkhouse Now

Sometimes we just have to break ranks and remind ourselves how to rock n' roll. I have no deadlines or quotas. I don't answer to Pajama's Media. So I can do this. And that's why I'm so very special.

It's Friday and I'm Feeling a Little 1960's Cocktail Lounge'ish

The 1960s cocktail lounge. When smoking was allowed and people knew how to drink.

Because It's Friday and You Ain't Got Sh*t to Do

And don't tell me you do. If you did, you wouldn't be here.
