This is an old matchbook from Chicago. It's for Ricketts English Bar on 2727 N. Clark Street. The matchbook dates from the 1940s.
I did some googling and came up with a little more about the place. There isn't much out there. This passing reference in an article about the Cubs new ownership...
"The Ricketts family that now owns the Cubs is, as far as I can tell, no relation to the Ricketts family that owned several restaurants in Chicago and the suburbs, beginning as early as 1904 and continuing into the mid-1970's. The restaurant at 2727 N. Clark, about a mile from Wrigley Field, was open until at least 1963, when that area began to suffer a bit of a decline, not to be stemmed until the late 1970's."
This blurb from a Chicago dining guide from 1928...
"They come here for steaks, which are admirable, and for a snack after the theatre."
And these postcards...
It looks like it was once a festive place.
I did a search on Google Maps at that address. It's now Sally Beauty Supply (with upstairs apartments). It's between a Famous Footwear store and a GameStop. America is worse off.
