CIA Warns Obama that British Terrorists Pose Greatest Threat

More accurately, terrorists coming from Britain pose the greatest threat. They're still Muslim scumbags.

American spy chiefs have told the President that the CIA has launched a vast spying operation in the UK to prevent a repeat of the 9/11 attacks being launched from Britain.

They believe that a British-born Pakistani extremist entering the US under the visa waiver programme is the most likely source of another terrorist spectacular on American soil.

Intelligence briefings for Mr Obama have detailed a dramatic escalation in American espionage in Britain, where the CIA has recruited record numbers of informants in the Pakistani community to monitor the 2,000 terrorist suspects identified by MI5, the British security service.

A British intelligence source revealed that a staggering four out of 10 CIA operations designed to thwart direct attacks on the US are now conducted against targets in Britain.

And a former CIA officer who has advised Mr Obama told The Sunday Telegraph that the CIA has stepped up its efforts in the last month after the Mumbai massacre laid bare the threat from Lashkar-e-Taiba, the militant group behind the attacks, which has an extensive web of supporters in the UK.

The British official said: "The Americans run their own assets in the Pakistani community; they get their own intelligence. There's close cooperation with MI5 but they don't tell us the names of all their sources.

"Around 40 per cent of CIA activity on homeland threats is now in the UK. This is quite unprecedented."

Explaining the increase in CIA activity over the past month, Mr Riedel added: "In the aftermath of the Mumbai attack the US and the UK intelligence services now have to regard Lashkar-e-Taiba as just as serious a threat to both of our countries as al-Qaeda. They have a much more extensive base among Pakistani Diaspora communities in the UK than al–Qaeda."

Information gleaned by CIA spies in Britain has already helped thwart several terrorist attacks in the UK and was instrumental in locating Rashid Rauf, a British-born al-Qaeda operative implicated in a plot to explode airliners over the Atlantic, who was tracked down and killed in a US missile strike in November.

The CIA's station chief at its sensitive post in Algeria is under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department for allegedly raping at least two Muslim women who claim he laced their drinks with a knock-out drug, U.S. law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

(AP/ABC News)Officials say the 41-year old CIA officer, a convert to Islam, was ordered home by the U.S. Ambassador, David Pearce, in October after the women came forward with their rape allegations in September.

The discovery of more than a dozen videotapes showing the CIA officer engaged in sex acts with other women has led the Justice Department to broaden its investigation to include at least one other Arab country, Egypt, where the CIA officer had been posted earlier in his career, according to law enforcement officials.

The U.S. State Department referred questions to the Department of Justice, which declined to comment.

If the adult daughter of a CIA Director-designate hangs out with sworn enemies of the United States, it's a matter for the United States Senate to probe aggressively. And so the Senate really has to ask some very pointed questions about Linda Panetta, daughter of President-Elect Obama's pick to lead the CIA, and her ties to Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega and Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez.

Linda Panetta is a noted anti-military activist who has accused the US military of teaching Latin American officers how to torture. She has also been close to causes hostile toward the United States and friendly to the old Soviet Union, and the regimes in Cuba, Venezuela and Iran.

As a leader of School of the Americas Watch, Panetta urged Chavez to cancel Venezuela's participation in the US military school for Latin American officers in Fort Benning, Georgia. Chavez agreed, and promptly did so. As such, Compañera Panetta helped sever an important link between the US and the Venezuelan officer corps. This is a big blow to US intelligence efforts in the hemisphere.

This says a few things about CIA Director-designate Leon Panetta. While a parent can't necessarily be blamed for his wayward children, we think senators should ask the nominee to be the next CIA chief about his daughter's support for sworn enemies of the United States. As a congressman, Panetta was pretty soft on the communist FMLN guerrillas in El Salvador, and Daniel Ortega's Marxist Sandinista regime in Nicaragua. So father and daughter's views do coincide somewhat.

CIA CONTINUES TO USE MAXWELL SMART'S "CONE OF SILENCE"

It's a slow day. And this stuff fascinates me.

In the new book Spycraft: The Secret History of the CIA’s Spytechs From Communism to Al-Qaeda, authors Robert Wallace and H. Keith Melton detail more than 200 espionage devices that sound every bit as improbable.

Only they’re all real.

Exploding pastries. Inflatable rubber airplanes. A cigarette gun. Even a spy cat internally wired for sound called an Acousti-Kitty.

Another device that worked? The Secure Shielded Enclosure, a Plexiglas-like enclosure that functioned similarly to Get Smart’s famous Cone of Silence.

“It came about 10 years after the Cone of Silence was shown in the (original) ‘Get Smart’ TV series,” Wallace said.

So … the Cone of Silence was real?

“It was not only real, it continues in use today.”

Specifically, Wallace said, the Secure Shielded Enclosure is a transparent, Plexiglas-like box inside a room, usually in a foreign facility.

“It’s essentially a room within a room, constructed in such a way that nothing can get in or out. It was designed for exactly the same purpose that Max and the Chief used the Cone of Silence.”

The enclosure served a social purpose as well.

“In places such as Moscow where KGB surveillance extended to the private residence of U.S. officials, families could go into the box and have their discussions without anyone listening or videotaping them. It was a place of true privacy. Probably the only place in Moscow of assured privacy.”

FORMER CIA OFFICER: IRAN ATTACK COMING SOON

Not a whole lot of hard facts here. But I reckon this kind of rhetoric sells papers:

In a new editorial published by AntiWar.com, former CIA officer Ray McGovern states that he believes "a perfect storm seems to be gathering in late summer or early fall," when the Bush administration and allies in Israel will launch attacks against Iran.

"This time it will be largely the Air Force's show, punctuated by missile and air strikes by the Navy," writes McGovern. "Israeli-American agreement has now been reached at the highest level; the armed forces planners, plotters and pilots are working out the details."

He ultimately concludes that a handful of senior military officers have been key in preventing an attack on Iran thus far, though their numbers are thinning thanks to administration efforts.

REPORT: BIN LADEN HIDING IN PAKISTAN CAVE

All this just begs the question. So why isn't he dead?

Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden is hiding in the "rooftop of the world", the Karakoram section of the Himalayan range along Pakistan's borders with Afghanistan and China, a media report has claimed.

The Central Investigation Agency (CIA) of the US has located bin Laden in the "rooftop of the world", the area of Pakistan that borders Afghanistan to the west, in particular the chain of mountains in the province of Nurestan, and China to the north, Arabic television network Al-Arabiya quoted unidentified sources as saying.

The Dubai-based network reported that US security and military officials had a top-level meeting at a military base in Qatar's capital Doha to plan an operation to hunt for bin Laden a few days ago.

The US commander in Iraq, Gen David Petraeus, and US Ambassador to Islamabad Anne Patterson were reported to have attended the meeting in Doha.
