Woman Creates Obama Dolls

So, are these for sticking needles in or something?

Marian Fluet, 94, has been sewing for decades.

Throughout her life, she has hand-sewn hundreds of baby dolls, dozens of fabric folk – including a uniformed Red Sox fan – and tons of teddy bears.

But the presidential inauguration inspired a unique project for Fluet: lifelike Barack and Michelle Obama dolls.

Day by day, from February to June, Fluet has crafted the president and first lady. With artificial fur hair and ears stitched to scale, Barack stands at 32 inches. Michelle, at his side, measures at 28 inches and sports a black wig.

With hand-sewn smiles and patent-leather shoes, Fluet's patriotic pair is as flashy as the real thing.

The president doll wears a navy blue suit complete with matching tie and bejeweled flag pin. His wife dons a forest green floral dress embellished with a gold necklace and pearl bracelet.

The Obamas are completely made with cloth and stuffed with polyester.
Made of cloth and stuffed with polyester? Hey, just like the real thing.
