Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), by virtue of the fact that she is married to the President of the United States (POTUS). This is not an elected position, of course, and she does not receive a government salary, since she does not perform any official duties. Nevertheless, she finds it necessary to employ (at taxpayer expense) at least 22 staffers to serve her; not including the myriad cooks, butlers, gardeners, chauffeurs, and other functionaries needed to operate the Executive Mansion. Nor does this number include the large (but classified) number of security personnel detailed to protect her and her children.22 attendants and she's still getting children to work her garden for free.
Writing in the Canada Free Press, Dr. Paul L. Williams observes that Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary: “How things have changed! If you’re one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Miz Michele are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. Public.”
Dr. Williams makes ironic mention of the now-famous quotation from Mrs. Obama: “In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much. See, that’s why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service.“ He then lists the “assorted lackeys:”
1. $172,2000 - Sher, Susan (CHIEF OF STAFF)
2. $140,000 - Frye, Jocelyn C. (DEPUTY ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF POLICY AND PROJECTS FOR THE FIRST LADY)

Is Mrs Obama the first first lady to have this staff? Why hasn't any other first lady been questioned about who is working for her or how much they are being paid? America is a rascist nation, and these are racist questions being raised under the guise of economic prudence. This makes me ashamed to be american.
Wow! The race card. Is that all you have? Of course it is. You make me ashamed to be an american. You do.
But to answer your question, no, she's not the first first lady to have this staff. But she does have the second largest staff in history and a significantly larger staff than either of the Bush women or Hillary Clinton. She's also the only first lady who told America that they needed to "share their Pie and sacrifice". So, unless you're blind, you might see why we'd make a point of that large staff at this site. Not to mention, we're in a recession.
Playing the race card is not going to work anymore. Not here anyway. So come back when you have something intelligent to offer. So I guess I'll never see you again?
I think Anonymous was being sarcastic. Anywho, why does any First Lady have paid staff? How can that be constitutional? She's not elected, nor has any government job. We don't pay the POTUS enough to support his wife? When did we pick up royalty as part of our government?
Which First Lady was the most outrageous in this regard?
Neshobanakni
Betty Ford was the most "outrageous," in that she had 28 staff members.
What's even sadder than playing the race card is how deep the ultra-right nutjobs have to dig to find dirt on the Obamas. Let's look at it this way--at least Michelle Obama didn't murder any of her high school sweethearts!
