Police responding to a call about "two black males" breaking into a home near Harvard University ended up arresting the man who lives there — Henry Louis Gates Jr., the nation's PRE-EMINENT black scholar. <-- Aint dem some fancy words.
Gates had forced his way through the front door because it was jammed, his lawyer said. Colleagues call the arrest last Thursday afternoon a clear case of racial profiling.
Cambridge police say they responded to the home after a woman reported seeing "two black males with backpacks on the porch," with one "wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry."
By the time police arrived, Gates was already inside. Police say he refused to come outside to speak with an officer, who told him he was investigating a report of a break-in. <--- STOP RIGHT HERE. Get your ass outside and show some respect for authority and there is no story. But Nah, the PRE-EMINENT Professor can't be bothered with common sense.
"Why, because I'm a black man in America?" Gates said, according to a police report written by Sgt. James Crowley. The Cambridge police refused to comment on the arrest Monday. Nah bra, you just a dumbass in America.
Gates — the director of Harvard's W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research — initially refused to show the officer his identification, but then gave him a Harvard University ID card, according to police.
"Gates continued to yell at me, accusing me of racial bias and continued to tell me that I had not heard the last of him," the officer wrote.

There's no indication here of that being true. His being a jackass to the cops trying to protect his home, however, is pretty clear.

The next time two black males or two any color males break into his house, I hope no one calls 911.
The police are not required to jump through hoops. The police are allowed to come on any property to check out a report. Your suggestion that they go throught some long investigation before going up and knocking on a door means that many burglars would be long gone.

Obama & Gates are both racists! Obama and Gates should both appoligize to the officer. You would think, that common sense, would tell you to Thank an officer for making sure noone was breaking into your house. But no, this man, had to have an attitude with the officer for doing his job.
Crowley has no record of racial complaints in 11 years. He trains cadets at the academy in racial sensitivity and how to avoid profiling, at the specific request of black training personnel. Gates, on the other hand, Chairs a department named after the most famous black Marxist separatist of the 20th century. He is steeped in racist rhetoric, the history of oppression and all of the baggage that comes with teaching African American history. I don't beleive Gates overreacted. I beleive he saw a golden opportunity at creating an incident and he jumped at the chance. Too bad he picked the wrong cop to try it on.
