SUPER WHACKY MUSLIM FUN TIME: WOMEN'S TENNIS AND OFFENDING MUHAMMAD

One man's journey through Islam and the Middle East continues...

Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco have banned this week's issue of L'Express International, a French newsmagazine, saying its cover story titled "The Jesus-Muhammad Shock" offended Islam. Apparently, the magazine would have been fine if it had only insulted Jesus.

The leader of a jihadi group in Iraq argued Friday that the election of Barack Obama as president represented a victory for radical Islamic groups that had battled American forces since the invasion of Iraq. Actually, I can't take issue with that statement.

Qatar is hosting a tennis tournament, but Islam sets limits on sensuality of female stars. Silhouettes instead of photographs, and computer manipulation to conceal thighs: that is how Qatar promoted this week's season-ending WTA Championship. Women's tennis without upskirt shots? What's the damn point?

There is a growing movement among Muslims, especially women, away from the inherited patriarchal Islam toward an egalitarian Islam. Egalitarian Islam? We'll check back on that in about a 1000 years.

The American Muslim Taskforce on Civil Rights and Elections (AMT) today released the results of a poll indicating that almost 90 percent of American Muslim voters picked Barack Obama in Tuesday's election. He also got 77% of the Jewish vote. One of these sides is dead wrong.
