EU READY TO SEND TROOPS TO IRAQ -- NOW THAT THE WAR HAS BEEN WON

Unreal! The EU is ready to send troops to Iraq now that Bush is leaving. And only because Bush is leaving. And they call Bush stubborn and ignorant? How many American and Iraqi lives were lost because the EU sat on its hands. Well, more than that. The EU actually actively spoke out against the war, costing lives. And now they want to send help when their help isn't needed?

The Lebanese Daily Star on Saturday reported that the European Union is set to step up its engagement in Iraq once a new U.S. administration takes office, according to an internal paper by the French EU presidency.

“Our common interest is to contribute to the success of Iraq,” the document seen by The Daily Star says. “Therefore, the European Union intends to re-engage in the country without delay.”

Diplomats familiar with the talks insisted that any level of re-engagement was linked to the security situation in Iraq. “At the moment, the country is probably still too insecure. But we’re starting the discussion now. The better things get, the more we can do,” a European diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

“We are certainly concerned and we are thinking of ways of how to help stabilize the country,” another diplomat said.

Let me get this straight. They want to help, but only if it's safe? They are thinking of ways to stabilize the country but have never been to the country and won't send troops to the country...until it's stabilized? And I'm sure Obama will be fine with that. Let me be the first to give an Obama style congratulations to our suddenly enlightened, albeit shamefully coward, European friends...
