TAIWANESE PROTESTORS ATTACK CHINESE ENVOY

Fight the power! Conservative Americans feel your plight my little league baseball cheating brothers.

Tensions over Taipei's thawing relationship with the mainland led to an attack on a Chinese official today, with anti-Beijing protesters shoving him to the ground as he toured a temple.

Television footage showed angry protesters surrounding Zhang Mingqing, vice-chairman of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, chanting "Taiwan does not belong to China", before pushing him over.

He had to be helped to his car as other activists tried to throw punches at him. One stamped on his vehicle, shouting: "Get out".

Taiwan has enjoyed de facto independence since Chiang Kai-shek's defeated Nationalists fled there at the end of the civil war in 1949. China still regards the island as its territory and has warned it will use force to repel moves towards formal independence.

CHINA'S SLOW CIVIL AWAKENING

Here's hoping the Chinese people are smart enough to resist their leaders' imperialistic plans:

Behind the calamities, there are signs of change in Beijing. Though they hold one-party power, the country's leaders know that they have to respond to popular concerns in ways that were not the case in the first decades of communist rule.

The scale of discontent is in no doubt. Official figures report that there were 90,000 protests last year. Some recent demonstrations have shown the scale and volatility that such outbreaks can assume. Ten thousand people gathered to protest at the failure of unauthorised banks in Hunan province this month and a similar-sized crowd gathering in the eastern port of Ningbo outside a factory after a boy was apparently thrown from one of its windows.

The protests are single-issue affairs, and do not represent organised opposition to communist rule. Still, for a regime that puts great store in stability, such grassroots sentiment cannot be ignored, particularly when it is prompted by anger against local officials or when it spills over into attacks on government and party offices.

LEFTIST LOONS RUNNING AMOK IN MINNEAPOLIS!

From Founding Fathers:

Founding Bloggers correspondents Andrew Marcus and Mike Kadela called in from the Minnesota State Capital Building on the chaotic protest that is developing.

Officials in St. Paul encouraged state workers to leave early today.
There are reports that the police are arresting random protesters and concerns that there may be a huge crackdown at 5:00 PM.

UPDATE: There were multiple arrests at the capital.
The situation is very tense.
There are 3,000- 5,000 protesters gathered at the capital.

The protesters are very agitated.

UPDATE: The protesters attempted to march to the Xcel Center from the capital. They were stopped at John Ireland Boulevard and Rice Street in between the capital and the cathedral. Protesters on bikes are riding around at the intersection. The police ordered the protesters to disperse about 25 minutes ago but the protesters did not hear them or want to hear them.

Someone is writing in the intersection with chalk: “F-the Police!”

UPDATE: The majority of the protesters departed back to the capital building. They do not have a permit to protest there tonight so things could get really crazy.

UPDATE: The crowd is taunting the police at the capital. So far there is a very tense standoff.
Douchebags!

OBAMA TUANTED AT HIS WESTERN WALL PHOTO OP

Devastating news out of Israel. If anyone knows a phony Jesus when they see one, it's the Jews:

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama made a surprise pre-dawn visit to Jerusalem's Western Wall on Thursday, at the end of a trip aimed at showing his strong support for Israel.

Obama, wearing a Jewish skullcap, placed a prayer he had written in the wall and bowed his head while a rabbi read a psalm calling for peace in the holy city.

One worshipper chanted "Obama, Jerusalem is not for sale" and "Jerusalem is our land" as the Illinois senator stood at the wall, a relic of the ancient Jewish temple destroyed during Roman rule nearly 2,000 years ago.
Our sources tell us that it was more than just one person giving him the business.

CHINESE ANTI-FRENCH BOYCOTT FALLS FLAT

It looks like China's protests are as crappy as the products they export.

They came. They expressed patriotic fervor. Then they shopped.

On Thursday, the first day of a planned boycott against Carrefour, a French retail chain here, there were a few low-key protests around the country, but many Carrefour outlets did a healthy business in peanut oil, petit fours and family packs of litchi juice.

CHINESE THUGS INVADE SEOUL OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY

Chinese bullies doing their Chinese bully thing...

An interesting report from One Free Korea.

One Chinese student swatted at the demonstrators with a flagpole. Another student was arrested for allegedly throwing rocks, police said. Police said four other people were arrested for trying to disrupt the relay. Authorities deployed some 8,000 police — some riding horses and bicycles — to protect the torch.

At one point, the two groups clashed with Chinese students kicking an elderly South Korean protester and hurling rocks at a group that raised banners chastising Beijing.
Look at these animals. Of course, the Chinese government's line will be it was all just the Dali Lama manipulating world opinion.

SOCIAL UNREST GROWING AMONG CHINA'S MUSLIMS

More and more signs of domestic unrest are emerging from within China.

Recently, hundreds of Muslim women in black veils gathered outside the market in this oasis city in an impromptu protest. Some carried signs demanding an independent state.
"I saw the demonstration myself. There were 500 to 700 women in black, waving placards for East Turkestan," said Wu Jiangliang, a hydroelectric company employee.
China handled the unrest forcefully, ensuring the stability of a region rich in oil, coal and minerals. Police moved quickly to quell the March 23 protest, arresting numerous women and shooing others away. It drew only minor notice.
"The Chinese are too bad, really bad," said Hama. He said that the Chinese had broken up a protest of about 200 people last month. He put his wrists together as if handcuffed, saying, "I can't say more or I'll get arrested."

As China grapples with protests in Tibet, it also faces unrest on its Central Asian frontier. Resentment against the Chinese has long been an issue in the traditionally Muslim western region, which borders Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia. Recent problems in Xinjiang came after nearly a month of anti-government riots and protests in Tibet and other provinces with sizable Tibetan populations.

Such clashes are growing as the Olympic Games approach, with the world's spotlight on China and its human rights record. However, the situation with the Muslim minority Uighurs is even more complicated because China worries about separatist sentiment.
And if you can believe the Chinese government, these unhappy muslims are beginning to take action.
China's Public Security Ministry said this month that it broke up a terror ring of 35 members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement — a militant group that calls for separation from China and is on the U.S. terror list — in Xinjiang in recent weeks suspected of plotting to kidnap athletes, foreign journalists and other visitors to the August Olympics.

Last month, Chinese officials accused the East Turkestan Islamic Movement of trying to crash a domestic flight from Xinjiang, though the details of the case remain sketchy.
Analysts fear that the combination of Han immigration and government repression fosters a potentially violent despair among the Uighurs, whose adherence to Islam has been used by Beijing to demonize them at home and abroad sijnce 9/11.

"It's a systematic Chinese policy to portray Uighurs as splittists and terrorists," says Rebiya Kadeer, a businesswoman who now heads the American Uighur Association and is the leader of an exile movement seeking greater rights for her roughly nine million compatriots who live in Xinjiang. Like Mutallip, Kadeer was once a rich businesswoman in Xinjiang but fell afoul of the authorities and served a six year jail sentence for revealing state secrets to foreigners. Two of her sons are still in prison in China. "It's a Chinese tool to have the Han feel a sense of animosity toward Uighurs," Kadeer says. "Look at it now! They have extracted all the natural resources and the oil. We're left in the darkness."

Beijing's security chiefs see a more sinister trend at work. On three occasions — most recently on April 10 — officials in the Chinese capital have announced that security forces foiled planned attacks by what they called Muslim separatists groups from the province. Details were scant, but the most recent announcement alleged that some 45 Uighurs in the provincial capital Urumqi had been arrested in raids that uncovered plans to kidnap athletes and others attending the 2008 Beijing Olympics. An earlier report alleged that a young Uighur woman had tried to smuggle a bomb aboard a commercial aircraft in an attempt to bring it down.
The history of Muslims in China goes back a way.
The history of the Uighurs can be traced back 2,600 years. According to a history compiled by the London Uighur Ensemble, a group formed to popularize the traditional and popular music of the Uighurs, the nomadic tribes of that era rose "to challenge the Chinese Empire" and to become "the diplomatic arm of the Mongol invasion."

China's ethnic Uighurs are moderate Muslims who are related to the Turks. Like the Kurds of Asia Minor and the Tamils of Sri Lanka, the Uighurs are a dissatisfied transnational ethnic minority spread across several countries, without an independent homeland or a strong leader. They are located mainly China, but also Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

The London Ensemble notes that the ethnic minority "staged several uprisings" against the Nationalist Chinese government in the period before the Communists took control of the country. In 1933 and 1944, the Uighurs established an independent Islamic Eastern Turkestan republic, but that attempt at a nation state ended after military intervention by the Soviet Union. With the establishment of the Maoist government in China in 1949, the tribal homeland came under Chinese communist rule.
This whole thing has me confused. Who am I rooting for?

CODE PINK WEENIES

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. These Code Pink losers were kicked out of the Gen. Petraeus hearing last week en mass. Apparently Joe Biden is good for something, and when one of them started making noise they were all booted. On the attached video they are seen as they are being taken away by cops. These are some seriously annoying people who no one in their right mind would hire. Or they'd be at work, no?

"I didn't do anything!"
