Operation Forgotten Soldier may be forced to close in December if it can't raise $70,000.
The nonprofit charity sends letters, postcards and care packages to service members outside the U.S.
The names of the soldiers receiving little or no mail are sent to the charity by chaplains, commanders and mail room staffers. The project fills more than a thousand requests a month.
The campaign was founded in 2003. It is volunteer driven and donations pay for operating costs and postage.
A fundraising campaign targeting American companies only raised $30.
