This is the Chik-fil-a in my hometown which has been so successful and busy that they were able to close for 6 weeks to install a second ordering lane because of the constant traffic jam.
For a bankrupted city like Chicago, one would assume that they would desire the generous tax revenue created by a successful business model.
But again the reality is that Chicago is just another hotbed of liberal lunacy on the brink of economic failure due to the insane ideology of the left which somehow equates the simple admission of a Christian belief with that of politically incorrect discrimination.
Can someone please explain to me why many big cities that are controlled largely by Democrats are filthy, dilapidated, festering funk-holes of violence, corruption, despair and disrepair?
It's ok. I know the answer already, I just can't say it because anything deemed as Conservative thought is automatically and blatantly racist.
There's what Obama says hope and change is, and then there's what hope and change really is. This is Obama's town. He has been charged with its welfare. How's he doing America?
Chicago is the Second City in nickname and the third in population, but when it comes to murder, the city has the dubious distinction of being second to no city in America.
As CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports, the Chicago Sun-Times pointed out on Friday that Chicago has seen 426 homicides this year through Tuesday, compared with 417 in New York and 302 in Los Angeles.
At the end of 1998, Chicago made international headlines as the U.S. "murder capital" after surpassing New York's homicide totals for the first time ever. Chicago shed that dubious distinction when murders plummeted over the last decade.
Once again, it takes the Canadian Press to uncover the truth about Barack Obama:
Sen. Barack Obama vows to “change the world.” For starters, he’s made an “historic commitment to education” for “every American child” that begins “from the moment they’re born to the day they graduate college.”
What are some of Obama’s extraordinary education plans? Embedding positive behavior in students and developing a data system to monitor them.
Let’s first look at Obama’s education track record. It’s his exalted 7-year stint to reform Chicago schools as chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) with “distinguished scholar” and unrepentant terrorist William Ayers that according to CAC’s records showed no academic achievement.
So far, Obama shows no sign of distress or contrition over CAC’s alarming outcome; nor has he explained why CAC funneled over U.S. $100 million to radical organizations in line with Ayer’s political ideology, including “to education programs built around the same extremist anti-American ideology preached by [Obama’s former pastor] Reverend Wright.” (National Review)
This ideological alliance was fomented during Ayer’s Weatherman days where cop killers were hailed as freedom fighters and radical cohorts were encouraged to recruit students, “bring the revolution home” and “kill your parents.”
* 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago * 221 killed in Iraq
Chicago - who runs it?
Senators: Barack Obama and Dick Durbin Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr. Illinois Governor: Rod Blogojevich Illinois House leader: Mike Madigan Illinois Attorney General: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike) Chicago Mayor: Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)
...our leadership in Illinois: all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago. Of course, they're all blaming each other!
Can't blame Republicans. There aren't any!
State pension fund is $44 Billion in debt, worst in country. Cook County (Chicago) sales tax is 10.25%, the highest in the country. The Chicago school system is rated one of the worst in the country (despite the $160 million that Obama and terrorist Bill Ayers slathered around to various leftist causes during the Chicago Annenberg Challenge).
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. And he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics for us? Wake up America! We've already sacrificed Chicago!
It’s nice to be the guy getting tips for once instead of the guy sending them. Yesterday I got two great tips from Morgen, a reader who had found my earlier posts digging into the Obama Ayers connection. Both tips appear to check out and the second one is, I think, big news.
First, the smaller one…
This Chicago Annenberg Challenge website from 2002 shows the total amount of funds given to Bill Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop from 1995 to 2001. The amount is not the $175K I had reported earlier. According to this page, the total given under Barack Obama’s direct supervision was $1,056,162. Adding that amount to the money given by the Joyce Foundation and Woods Fund during Obama’s tenure brings the grand total to $1,968,718. Just shy of two million dollars! That’s a lot of scratch, to put it bluntly. And don’t forget, this doesn’t count the 3/4 million that went to John Ayers during the same time period.
Now here’s the second and bigger break, again big hat tip to Morgen for his work on this…
Bill Ayers and Barack Obama shared an office. Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop, the one Obama directed all that money too is located at 115 S. Sangamon Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607 [Note the link is to a year 2000 version of their website].
The mainstream media might have found this if they weren't so busy trying to ruin the life of a plumber.
Just weeks before Election Day, a former banker has filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court claiming he was fired for reporting to his bosses that there had been some shenanigans with the paperwork on a loan involving the purchase of Barack Obama's South Side home and its neighboring lot.
Kenneth Conner claims in the suit that an appraisal found the vacant lot purchased by Obama fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko was worth $125,000 less than the bank's first appraisal. The Republican National Committee was peddling the suit today with the apparent hope that Conner's allegation would lend credence to the suggestion Obama needed Rezko's help to finance the purchase of the Kenwood home--something Obama has denied.
The suit also includes this intriguing assertion: The Rezko loan file was subpoenaed by a federal grand jury in Chicago, and when the bank responded to the subpoena the lower appraisal wasn't included in the papers sent to federal investigators.
The hits just never stop coming. A fantastic discovery from New Zeal
There has been a big buzz on the blogospere since US mega-blog Powerline picked up on evidence proving that Barack Obama was, in the mid '90s, a member of a short-lived socialist organisation, the Chicago New Party.
The Obama camp has countered in two ways.
Firstly-claiming that while Obama was endorsed by the New Party he was never a member.
That lie is easily disposed of.
Here is a photo of Obama and other New Party members, including Danny K Davis (centre) from the front page of New Party News, Spring 1996.
Page 2 includes this paragraph;
"New Party members won three other primaries this Spring in Chicago: Barack Obama (State Senate), Michael Chandler (Democratic Party Committee) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary)..."these victories prove that small 'd' democracy can work' said Obama".
Secondly-supporters claim that the New Party was not actually socialist.
This is so far from the truth.
The New Party was the creation of DSA and the radical community organisation ACORN-which was in itself something of a DSA front. In some areas the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) was involved, but in Chicago the CPUSA splinter group Committees of Correspondence (CoC)was more prominent. Carl Davidson is well aware that Marxists set up the Chicago New Party because he was one of them.
From Chicago DSA's New Ground of March/April 1995
On January 27th approximately 45 people attended the Chicago DSA and Chicago CoC organized public form at the ACTWU hall on Ashland Ave... Chicago DSA was represented by Co-Chair, Kurt Anderson and Political Education Officer, Bob Roman. CoC was represented by Carl Davidson, who is a member of CoC's National Coordinating Committee and Ronelle Mustin, an activist from the 22nd ward. The event was chaired by Sandi Patrinos, chair of Chicago CoC...
Carl Davidson wanted to focus on "voting patterns." ...To win elections, Davidson emphasized that there are two necessary coinciding factors. First, a passive majority... Secondly, a militant minority...
"A mile wide and an inch deep". That's my Barack Obama.
A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent.
The garden was never built. And now state records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant money went to the wife of Kenny B. Smith, the Obama 2000 congressional campaign volunteer who heads the Chicago Better Housing Association, which was in charge of the project for the blighted South Side neighborhood.
Smith wrote another $20,000 in grant-related checks to K.D. Contractors, a construction company that his wife, Karen D. Smith, created five months after work on the garden was supposed to have begun, records show. K.D. is no longer in business.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan — a Democrat who is supporting Obama’s presidential bid — is investigating “whether this charitable organization properly used its charitable assets, including the state funds it received,” Cara Smith, Madigan’s deputy chief of staff, said Wednesday.
In addition to the 2001 grant that Obama directed to the housing association as a “member initiative,” the not-for-profit group got a separate $20,000 state grant in 2006.
Obama's garden to nowhere. Corrupt as the day is long.
Obama's town. Is this what hope and change will bring us? Twice as many killed in Obama land as in Iraq during the same period.
An estimated 125 people were shot and killed in Chicago over the summer. That's nearly double the number of soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period.
In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 123 people were shot and More.. killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1.
According to the Defense Department, 65 soldiers were killed in combat in Iraq. About the same number were killed in Afghanistan over that same period.
In the same time period, an estimated 245 people were shot and wounded in the city.
Disco Demolition Night was a promotional event that took place on July 12, 1979, at Comiskey Park in Chicago. It was held during a scheduled twi-night doubleheader between the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. During the event, rowdy fans surged onto the field, and a near riot ensued. It would ultimately prove to be one of the most notable promotional ideas and one of the most infamous since "Ten Cent Beer Night" in Cleveland in 1974.
Local radio station WDAI went to an all-disco format, and fired popular disk jockey Steve Dahl. Dahl was subsequently hired by rival station WLUP. He created a mock organization called "The Insane Coho Lips Anti-Disco Army" to oppose disco, in which Dahl and partner Garry Meier regularly mocked and heaped scorn on disco records on the air. Dahl also recorded his own parody, Do You Think I'm Disco? (a satire of Rod Stewart's, Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?).
Meanwhile, on May 2, the Tigers-White Sox game in Chicago was rained out. League rules called for the game to be made up at the clubs' next meeting in Chicago. July 12 was to have been a single, Thursday night game to kick off a four-game weekend series, the last series before the All-Star Break. The first meeting was switched to a doubleheader, and the extra game resulted in the unusual situation of a five-game series. (The White Sox would end up losing four of the five games.)
Dahl and Meier, in conjunction with Mike Veeck (son of then Chicago White Sox owner Bill Veeck), Dave Logan, WLUP Promotion Director, and Jeff Schwartz WLUP Sales Manager, devised a promotion that involved people bringing unwanted disco music records to the game in exchange for an admission fee of 98¢, representing the station's location on the dial, 97.9. The records would be collected, placed in a large crate in center field, and blown up by Dahl.
The turnout for this promotion far exceeded all expectations. White Sox management was hoping for an additional crowd of 5,000, but a total of 75,000+ turned up instead. Thousands of people were climbing walls and fences in order to get into Comiskey Park and others were locked out and off-ramps to the stadium from the Dan Ryan Expressway were closed when the stadium was filled to capacity and beyond.
White Sox TV announcers Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall commented freely on the "strange people" wandering aimlessly in the stands. Mike Veeck recalled that the pregame air was heavy with the scent of marijuana. When the crate on the field was filled with records, staff stopped collecting them from spectators who soon realized that long-playing (LP) records were shaped like Frisbees. They began to throw their records from the stands during the game, and the records often struck other fans. The fans also threw beer and even firecrackers from the stands.
After the first game, Dahl, dressed in army fatigues and helmet, along with a female sidekick named Lorelei and bodyguards, went out to center field. The large box containing the collected records was rigged with a bomb. When it exploded, the bomb tore a hole in the outfield grass surface and thousands of fans immediately rushed the field. Some lit fires and started small-scale riots. The batting cage was pulled down and wrecked, and the bases literally stolen, along with chunks of the field itself. The crowd, once on the field, mostly wandered around aimlessly, though a number of participants burned banners, sat on the grass or ran from security and police. People sitting in the upper deck could feel it sway back and forth from the rioters.
Veeck and Caray used the public address system to implore the fans to leave the field immediately, but to no avail. Eventually, the field was cleared by the Chicago Police in riot gear. Six people reported minor injuries and thirty-nine were arrested for disorderly conduct. Tigers' manager Sparky Anderson refused to field his team citing safety concerns, which resulted in the forfeiture by the White Sox to the Tigers. The remaining games in the series were played, but for the rest of the season fielders and managers complained about the poor condition of the field.
For White Sox outfielder Rusty Torres (who had singled and scored the only Chicago run in a 4-1 loss in the first game), it was nothing new: Disco Demolition Night was actually the third time in his career he had personally seen a forfeit-inducing riot. He had been playing for the New York Yankees at the last Senators game in Washington in 1971, and a Cleveland Indian at the infamous Ten Cent Beer Night in Cleveland in 1974.
At least one writer characterized this event, referencing "American Pie", as "The Day Disco Died".
According to the 1986 book "Rock of Ages: The Rolling Stone history of Rock and Roll" the event was the "emblematic moment" of the anti-disco "crusade" and noted that "the following year disco had peaked as a commercial blockbuster".
Steve Dahl himself said in an interview with Keith Olbermann that disco "was a fad probably on its way out" but that the event "hastened its demise."
As a state senator, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee coauthored an Illinois law creating a new pool of tax credits for developers. As a US senator, he pressed for increased federal subsidies. And as a presidential candidate, he has campaigned on a promise to create an Affordable Housing Trust Fund that could give developers an estimated $500 million a year.
But a Globe review found that thousands of apartments across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies - including several hundred in Obama's former district - deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.
Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obama’s close friends and political supporters. Those people profited from the subsidies even as many of Obama’s constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted.
And here are the hope and changelings. They seem pretty pissed off. They are, however, a little misguided. Openly blaming their plight on whitey, instead of the master of hope and change who was supposed to fix all this.
More from the people of the land of hope and change.
More on Obama's district. This too, can be yours, America.
It's also being reported that ABC-7 news anchors moderated a panel at the Conference that appears to be the one Michelle Obama participated in. If so, then it's reasonable to believe ABC-7 in Chicago has footage from the panel discussion. It's also been consistently said on the blogs since word of this "tape" first broke that a network has the footage and is sitting on it --- and that the network in question is ABC. Once again, if ABC-7 does have tape from this panel discussion, they could solve this mystery today by releasing it all on their website -- particularly the 30 minutes or so of Michelle Obama speaking -- so we can see once and for all exactly what she said that day. The ABC-7 anchors who moderated could also come out and definitively say what Michelle Obama said on the panel (or Michelle could come out herself and recount what she said). That would get to the bottom of this.
In the aftermath of having a public spat with his mentor, Jeremiah Wright, Barak Obama it seems has turned to yet another hatemongering religious man for counsel.
CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports Obama felt betrayed and Wright felt sand-bagged. Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church said he has been speaking to both men as the events of the past 24 hours unfolded.
He counseled Obama Tuesday morning, and while CBS 2 talked to him Tuesday evening, Rev. Wright called his cell phone.
"I don't think he had any intention to hurt Barack. He loves Barack," Pfleger said. "I think the pain and the moment took over."
Who is Father Michael Pfleger? Here he is...
Amazing! Obama is now getting counsel from this guy? And Obama wants to be our latex salesman?
