As CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports, the Chicago Sun-Times pointed out on Friday that Chicago has seen 426 homicides this year through Tuesday, compared with 417 in New York and 302 in Los Angeles.

At the end of 1998, Chicago made international headlines as the U.S. "murder capital" after surpassing New York's homicide totals for the first time ever. Chicago shed that dubious distinction when murders plummeted over the last decade.

Truck Drivers

Trucks drivers have to go through a lot of training before they can actually begin their job as a driver. They need that training because maneuvering something that large is not easy, especially when they are forced to deal with the recklessness of other people on the road. About 70% of truck drivers who crash do so because of someone else getting in their way. Truck drivers are trained to be able to handle situations where they might have to deal with people who are not driving carefully, but they cannot avoid everything. Out of every 100,000 truck drivers, 27 die every year.

Electrical Power line Workers

It can be expected that this job would involve some risks. Workers are at very high points when they are doing their work and often have to position themselves at angles that make it hard for them to keep their balance. Power line workers have to wear special uniforms to keep them from getting shocked, and they also have special equipment that is used to help them keep their balance and stay on the lines, but sometimes these things fail to keep the workers safe. Out of 100,000 electrical power line workers, 34 die on the job every year.

Roofers

Roofers do not have it easy. They have to work on top of roofs which can sometimes be extremely high. While working they have to carry their heavy tools, and walk around, crawl, and climb to get where on the roof they need to go. It can be hard to keep their balance, especially when they have to deal with the wind. Safety gear is not often used because it makes it hard for the workers to move around, but this ultimately is why so many people are hurt/killed doing this every year. Roofers have to deal with numerous risks, from falling off the roof to slipping off the ladder. Out of 100,000 workers, 35 die each year.

Farmers/Ranchers

Most people are surprised to find this on the list of most dangerous jobs, but farmers actually have a lot of risks in their jobs. Farmers have to work with dangerous machinery all day, which can get tiring. Being tired on the job is not a good thing, if someone glances away from the tractor for just a slight second and gets off track, a crash could be the result. Their job also involves chemicals used for their crops and the slightest mistake can be disastrous. They also have to work with animals, this doesn't happen often, but every now and then they are put in danger by an animal who is out of control. For everyone 100,000 workers, 36 die each year.

Refuse Collectors

This job includes people who pick up garbage from construction, trash collectors, machinery operators, and crane operators. People who collect trash are at a great risk for things such as cutting themselves on glass in the trash and being hit by cars while they are collecting the trash. Those who operate machinery are sometimes forced to work in weather that is not exactly nice. The biggest problem that they have is that they are sometimes faced with chemicals and toxic materials. They may be aware that they are coming into contact with something dangerous, but at the same time, they might not be. Out of 100,000 workers 42 die each year.

Steel/Iron Construction Workers

These types of workers have to work at extreme heights, and as you can imagine, that can be very dangerous. Steel/Iron construction workers are the ones that build the frames of buildings and bridges. The majority of deaths occurring on this job, is because people have fallen off where ever they were standing. It is not difficult to fall off, one small step in the wrong direction could end their life. They wear protective gear and they do not work when the weather is dangerous, but there is not much that can be done if they fall off the building. For everyone 100,000 workers, 61 die a year.

Lumberjacks

They have to work with sharp tools and they have to do it quickly. They are often forced to work in conditions that are less than ideal. Working with heavy equipment such as saws and axes is extremely dangerous, even for people who are strong enough to handle it. Lumberjacks cannot make mistakes, if they do, they could lose a part of their body, or even worse, their life. They also have to work in places where they are at risk for things such as large branches and trees falling on them. They have to be careful and everyone else around them has to be careful as well, and sometimes even that isn't enough. Out of 100,000 workers, 81 die every year.

Pilots

This is an expected dangerous job, but most people do not realize that the pilots who have the dangerous jobs are not the ones they see when they go on vacation. The pilots who fly the commercial jets and airplanes are sometimes at risk, but they experience much less danger than those who test and experiment with the newest flight equipment. Crop dusters are also at a great risk, they work for long periods and they can be exposed to chemicals that can harm their health. These people fly low to the ground and can sometimes miss things such as power lines. Helicopter pilots are also exposed to a great deal of danger. Out of 100,000 workers, 88 die each year.

Fishermen

Yes, Fishermen. Commercial fishermen have to deal with very dangerous things on a daily basis. They are on boats and at the mercy of the sea. Weather changes are not uncommon, storms bring huge waves and rain, and this can all hit at once. They also have to manage their equipment, which is often very big, which does not make it easy to handle when the weather becomes a problem. There is no doubt that fishermen have extremely dangerous jobs. Out of every 100,000 workers, 142 die every year.

Cell Phone Tower Workers

This job is dangerous because of the cell phone companies. The cell phone service industry is a huge one, each company is competing against the others to build more towers and to build higher towers so that their service can be accessed everywhere. Companies hire workers to build these towers, and the workers that they hire are often not equipped to do the job properly and be safe at the same time. Workers on the cell phone towers do not know how to keep themselves properly safe and do their job correctly at the same time. For everyone 100,000 workers, 184 die each year.

Although it's not stated in the article, the reason for this apparent anomaly is simple. It's a mutually beneficial relationship. Cuba has an interest in keeping it citizens out of America. And Mexico has an interest in keeping Cubans from taking jobs from Mexicans...in America. The Mexicans are doing more to protect their jobs in America than the U.S. government is doing to protect American's jobs...in America.

Cuba and Mexico are discussing how to clamp down on the flow of illegal Cuban immigrants through Mexico to the United States, Cuba's Ambassador Manuel Aguilera said on Thursday.

Aguilera said the two countries could reach an initial agreement on undocumented migration when Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque visits Mexico in the next few weeks.

"What we are discussing is how to get both countries to increase our cooperation so that the migratory flow between Mexico and Cuba is safe, legal and orderly," Aguilera told a news conference.

Thousands of Cubans slip into Mexico by boat each year, mostly to the Yucatan Peninsula, without exit permits from the Cuban government.

They then make their way overland to the United States where, unlike other Latin American immigrants, they only have to make it onto U.S. soil and request political asylum to be let in.

If arrested in Mexico, the Cubans are often released, and then they head north.

Cubans seeking to get to Florida traditionally packed into boats and motored across the Florida Straits, but U.S. drug patrols in the area have made it harder to get through. The longer route via Mexico has become more popular in recent years.

Human traffickers are believed to be working in conjunction with drug smuggling gangs that control organized crime and police protection rackets up and down Mexico.

The Cuban ambassador said talks were centered around cracking down on migrant-smuggling gangs while also making it easier for academics and business executives to get visas to travel between the two countries.

It seems Iraqis have decided that al-Qaeda, not America, is the "foremost enemy." That al-Qaeda, not America, had come to fight the people of Iraq. That al-Qaeda, not America, was the enemy of Muslims and their holy places.

Does this mean Iraqis want America encamped there forever? Of course not. Or that innocent life hasn't been lost as the result of U.S. actions? No.

But what irony. In the heart of the proposed capital of the radical Islamist caliphate, the antidote to jihadi propaganda has actually been exposure to the courage, decency and values of U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.

Over the last five years, Iraqis have had the chance to see both sides in action: terrorists, extremists and militias that slaughter civilians at every opportunity vs. Americans who go out of their way to protect innocents, to help provide basic services, to rebuild communities.

Looking at those two contrary models, many Iraqis have thrown in with the Americans. Their reward? Decreasing levels of violence, a virtual end to the civil war, a certain level of protection against homicidal radicals, and the chance to put their country and lives back together.

For details on how this transformation occurred, start with the book Moment of Truth in Iraq, by former Green Beret and longtime embedded military blogger Michael Yon.

Yon describes al-Qaeda in Iraq as a gang that recruits young people with a "notion of masculinity in which the cruelest, most destructive, and bullying are seen as the toughest and thus the most admired."

In contrast, he writes, "What the American soldier at his best brings to counterinsurgency - by culture, by training, by long and honored tradition - is a different model in which the strongest - and most to be feared - is the one who protects and serves, who makes the people safe by putting himself at risk."

Yon shows the revulsion of Iraqi soldiers for al-Qaeda as they pull bodies of innocents - including decapitated children - from shallow graves in a village liberated from terrorists. "Look at what al-Qaeda has done to my country," one officer says.

Even the hard-core anti-American insurgent group, the 1920s Revolution Brigades, now fights alongside U.S. forces. One of their leaders told Yon: "Al-Qaeda is an abomination of Islam: cutting off heads, stealing people's money, kidnapping, and every type of torture."

FBI CONFIRMS STATESIDE TERROR CELLS

FBI Director Robert Mueller said last week that the FBI has uncovered small groups of Al Qaida terrorists in the United States, although he declined to provide details.

“As to your first question as to whether we have found affiliates or, as you would call them, cells of Al Qaida in the United States, yes, we have. Again, I cannot get into it in public session, but I would say yes, we have.”

Mueller defended the FBI’s Muslim outreach program that critics say have put the bureau in a role of providing legitimacy to Muslim groups that support overseas extremists.

The FBI has been stepping up intelligence-gathering activities in the United States aimed at providing intelligence that would stop a terrorist attack in advance, but U.S. officials said the intelligence program is still in its early stages.

After his spin of his insults of small town America failed miserably, Obama is now doing everything he can to re-characterize his elitist, demeaning comments about small town America. On Friday, Obama made the following statement:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

On Saturday, however, Obama tries to weasel himself away from his Freudian slip:

The truth of the matter is, he knows remarkably little about the pulse of America. His entire view of America comes from his muslim family, his racist pastor, and his marxist/communist mentors. And on Friday, Obama told the American people what he really thinks about them. No take backs bro. You own those statements.
