Michelle Obama Angry at Free Enterprise for Cashing in on her Daughters' Likenesses

This is just how the first lady lays out her intellectual property claim.

They’ve been in the White House less than a week, but the first daughters have already been co-opted by marketers — and Michelle Obama isn’t happy about it.

Ty, the toy company responsible for the popular Beanie Babies dolls, is now marketing “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia” dolls.

The first lady’s office said Friday Ty was out of line. “We feel it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes,” said a spokeswoman for Michelle Obama in a statement.
To quote Michelle Obama's office again: “We feel it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes”. Oh really? Is that something they just decided? regrettably, when you become a public figure (eg: elvis), itis very difficult to stp everyone from using your name or image without your prior permission.

certainly libel and slander laws exist to protect from defamation, but the use of an unlicensed imagem unless specifically protected already, is not open to sanction.
