By the logic she's quoting, being poor now is no reason to offer you assistance if you were once middle class. If you were healthy when young, you've already used up any obligation society has toward you once you are aged and infirm.
It's part and parcel of the progressive worldview, i.e. you only have a claim on society if you are part of their favored segment of society. Are you a university student amenable to the national goals? Are you a member of a minority with a (possibly imaginary) grievance against society at large? Do you have a sob story that is beyond critical questioning to carry the progressive narrative forward?
Don't worry, we can fund you through increasingly thorough investiture of the non-progressive portion of our population. Simply put; profit is evil - stand and deliver, you fools, don't try to hide income from those who are better than you!
