You Tube and Warner Music Group today pulled a highly popular video that very succinctly and clearly spelled out the roots of the current economic crisis.Screw Youtube. Watch the video here at The Big Feed.
The 9:59 video entitled "Burning Down the House: What Caused Our Economic Crisis" played four different songs under a fast moving video sequence that very clearly tied Democrats like Chris Dodd, Franklin Raines, Jim Johnson and Barack Obama to policies and corruption related to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It cleverly showed how the "affordable mortgage" programs sent an economic virus through the entire economy and showed Republican efforts to intervene and regulate being blocked.
For Obama and all congressional Democrats, it was a devastating video.
The video had almost a perfect viewer rating and had been viewed some 1.2 million times according to the You Tube counters. Sometime around 3:45 EDT the video disappeared with the banner saying "This Video is no longer available due to a copywrite claim by Warner Music Group."

Even though I wonder if Warner is so vigilant about its music being used for videos advantageous to Democrats, there is a perfect right to object to appropriation of intellectual property. Music is a business, and if you use someone's music you have to pay a royalty.
Simply re-post the video minus its music soundtrack, and see what happens. Ot use a soundtrack of music in the public domain. I suggest Vivaldi's Four Seasons, which has a driving beat of its own in various places.

FATWA AGAINST PAKISTANI PRESIDENT FOR "FLIRTING" WITH SARAH PALIN

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari seems to be heading towards fresh trouble as the prayer leader of the Lal Masjid in the heart of Islamabad has issued a fatwa against him.
Maulana Abdul Ghafar, the prayer leader, seems to be irked by Zardari's "you're gorgeous" compliment to US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin during a meeting.
When Zardari was asked to keep shaking hands with Palin for the cameras, he said, "If he's (the aide) insisting, I might hug you."
He said the act was un-Islamic and unbecoming of a head of state of a Muslim country.
Maulana also said that Zardari shamed the entire Pakistani by publicly making indecent gestures towards Palin in Washington last Thursday.

FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER TOLD OBAMA NOT TO WEAR THE BRACELET HE SHOWED OFF DURING THE DEBATE

Barack Obama played the "me too" game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.Democrats are some sick sumbitches! This is another story the mainstream media is not going to touch. So email it to everyone you know!
Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.
Radio host Glenn Moberg of the show "Route 51" asked Mr. Jopek, a man who believes in the efforts in Iraq and is not in favor of Obama's positions on the war, what he and his ex-wife think of Obama continually using their son's name on the campaign trail.
Jopek began by saying that his ex-wife was taken aback, even upset, that Obama has made the death of her son a campaign issue. Jopek says his wife gave Obama the bracelet because "she just wanted Mr. Obama to know Ryan's name." Jopek went on to say that "she wasn't looking to turn it into a big media event" and "just wanted it to be something between Barack Obama and herself." Apparently, they were all shocked it became such a big deal.
But, he also said that his ex-wife has refused further interviews on the matter and that she wanted Obama to stop wearing the reminder of her son's sacrifice that he keeps turning into a campaign soundbyte. This begins at about 10 minutes into the radio program. (Download radio show HERE)

Brian Jopek: Because of some of the negative feedback she's gotten on the Internet, you know Internet blogs, you know people accusing her of... or accusing Obama of trying to get votes doing it... and that sort of thing.
Radio Host Moberg: Yeah
Jopek: She has turned down any subsequent interviews with the media because she just didn't want it to get turned into something that it wasn't. She had told me in an email that she had asked, actually asked Mr. Obama to not wear the bracelet any more at any of his public appearances. Which I don't think he's...
Moberg: It has been a while since he's brought it up.
Jopek: Right. But, the other night I was watching the news and he was on, uh, speaking somewhere and he was still wearing it on his right wrist. I could see it on his right wrist. So, that's his own choice. I mean that's something Barack Obama, that's a choice that he continues to wear it despite Tracy asking him not to... Because she is a Barack Obama supporter and she didn't want to do anything to sabotage his campaign, so, if he's still wearing the bracelet then, uh, that of course is entirely up to him.
Moberg: Maybe there's a difference between wearing it and making a point to bring it up in your speeches?
Even the snow job that the radio host tried to pull off to cover for Barack's refusing the wishes of the family of the KIA soldier who's bracelet he wears doesn't pass the smell test. After all, now that Obama has made it a big point in the debates, I guess the silent observance of Sgt. Jopek is no longer so silent and Obama is back to exploiting the death of a soldier even when he was asked NOT to do so by that soldier's parents.
To pile insult onto injury here, the Mother doesn't even want to force the issue of telling Obama to stop exploiting her son because she wants to see him win the election. Obama is not only taking advantage of this brave soldier's death, he is taking advantage of the good wishes of the man's Mother who doesn't want to hurt the campaign.
And, why is the media not playing this story? The radio show on which this interview is heard happened all the way back in March. How is it the media missed this? Is it because they are also don't want to hurt Obama's campaign?
I can only say that if the parents of the soldier whose bracelet John McCain is wearing had said in public that they want him to stop wearing their son's bracelet the news would have been coast to coast, and wall to wall, not just ignored in Madison, Wisconsin.
Obama's use of this soldier that fell in the line of duty is tainted by his ambition and callousness. And the media is letting him get away with it.

I have reviewed portions of the Committee Print of the proposed GSE bill (the “Bill”) that came out of The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs (the “Senate Banking Committee”)as announced by the Senate Banking Committee on May 19, 2008. In particular, I have read Secs. 401-403 of the Bill titled “Hope For Homeowners Act of 2008.” I believe this Bill is a recipe for disaster and likely the next big target of fraud against taxpayers. First, I will attempt to summarize how this plan works, and then I will comment on it based on my interpretations and opinions.
How it works (if passed as is):
This plan authorizes FHA to provide guarantees for mortgages up to an aggregate of $300 billion. These mortgages get packaged and sold through the Government National Mortgage Association, or GNMA, and the securities sold by GNMA are backed by the full faith and credit of the United States (and that means the taxpayers).
Who can borrow under the plan:
These loans will only be made to borrowers who “provide a certification to the Secretary [of FHA] that the mortgagor has not intentionally defaulted on the eligible mortgage” and the current borrower debt to income ratio must be GREATER THAN 31 percent! So, we are talking about people who cannot pay their mortgages because they have too much mortgage debt relative to their income (I note that the Bill states “mortgage debt to income” as the ratio, but I am assuming it means to say “mortgage debt service to income” as a total mortgage debt to income ratio of 31% would make no sense in this context). Bill Sec. 402(e) The penalty for falsely stating that you did not intentionally default on your mortgage can be steep, including fines and prison time (how one proves this and what it means is beyond me – if one intentionally buys food instead of paying the mortgage is this an intentional default?)
Lets review. What the Bill proposes is to find mortgage borrowers who cannot afford their mortgage payments and are in default. Then, an appraisal is secured through an appraiser (the same group that got values completely wrong the last time around and are likely conflicted because of their relationships with lenders). The FHA then guarantees a loan to refinance the existing mortgages up to 90% of the appraised value. All parties have incentives to do these transactions that are unrelated to the resulting credit quality. In fact, the worse the credit quality is the greater the incentive for the investor/appraiser and the homeowner to participate. Then, once the FHA is on the hook, the homeowner is given the disincentive to remain in the house because under the best of circumstances they will realize only 50% of any future equity appreciation in the home. Under these circumstances is 3% plus a share of a share of future appreciation plus 1.5% per year (on loans that do not default) enough to cover the losses on this impending portfolio? I, for one, am not convinced that it is. Of course I could be wrong and this plan could turn out to be a great idea, but I see too many conflicts and perverse incentives in the current draft to believe this plan will actually work to the benefit of taxpayers. Instead, I see too much opportunity and incentive for quick transfers of bad loans from investors to taxpayers under the inadequate supervision of FHA and, as a taxpayer, that concerns me.
TALIBAN IN SECRET TALKS TO END AFGHAN WAR
Needless to say, I'm very skeptical of this story. If true at all, such a ploy would be either to effect U.S. elections, or to allow them time to regroup. No way the murderers in charge of the Taliban are just going to give up their power. No way.
TALIBAN leaders have reportedly been in secret talks about ending the Afghan war in a peace process sponsored by Saudi Arabia and supported by Britain.
The unprecedented negotiations involve a senior former Taliban member acting as a go-between, according to the Observer newspaper.
He has been travelling between the Afghan capital Kabul, Saudi Arabia and European capitals, and the bases of the Taliban senior leadership in Pakistan.
The Taliban are understood to have submitted a list of 11 conditions for ending hostilities, which include demands to be allowed to run key ministries and a programmed withdrawal of Western troops.
The go-between has spent weeks ferrying lists of demands and counter-demands between parties. He has visited London to speak to Foreign Office and MI6 personnel.
However, the Observer reported the talks had lost momentum over the intense summer fighting season.
UPDATE: PIRATES DIE STRANGELY AFTER TAKING IRANIAN SHIP

A tense standoff has developed in waters off Somalia over an Iranian merchant ship laden with a mysterious cargo that was hijacked by pirates.
Somali pirates suffered skin burns, lost hair and fell gravely ill “within days” of boarding the MV Iran Deyanat. Some of them died.
Andrew Mwangura, the director of the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme, told the Sunday Times: “We don’t know exactly how many, but the information that I am getting is that some of them had died. There is something very wrong about that ship.”
The vessel’s declared cargo consists of “minerals” and “industrial products”. But officials involved in negotiations over the ship are convinced that it was sailing for Eritrea to deliver small arms and chemical weapons to Somalia’s Islamist rebels.
The drama over the Iran Deyanat comes as speculation grew this week about whether the South African Navy would send a vessel to join the growing multinational force in the region.
The Iran Deyanat was sailing in those waters on August 21, past the Horn of Africa and about 80 nautical miles southeast of Yemen, when it was boarded by about 40 pirates armed with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades. They were alleged members of a crime syndicate said to be based at Eyl, a small fishing village in northern Somalia.
The ship is owned and operated by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, or IRISL, a state-owned company run by the Iranian military.
According to the US Treasury Department, the IRISL regularly falsifies shipping documents to hide the identity of end users, uses generic terms to describe shipments and operates under various covers to circumvent United Nations sanctions.
The ship set sail from Nanjing, China, at the end of July. According to its manifest, it was heading for Rotterdam where it would unload 42500 tons of iron ore and “industrial products” purchased by a German client.
At Eyl, the ship was secured by more pirates — about 50 on board, and another 50 on shore.
But within days those who had boarded the ship developed mysterious health trouble.
This was also confirmed by Hassan Allore Osman, minister of minerals and oil in Puntland, an autonomous region of Somalia.

WHAT DOES OBAMA REALLY THINK OF THE MIDDLE CLASS?: HIS 20 YEARS OF WORSHIP HOLDS THE KEY
Barack Obama is spending much of his post-debate time berating John McCain for not once mentioning the words "middle class" during the debate. He has made his promise of help for the middle class the center of his campaign. But how does he really feel about the middle class?Truth be told, Barack Obama has spent much of his adult life worshiping in a church that had as one of its basic tenets the "disavowal of the pursuit of middleclassness". What does that mean? Well, If I have to tell you what "middle class" means, please, spend your time at CNN.com. As for the term "disavowal"...It means (and this is solely for your benefit because I have a big brain and already know what it means) "to disclaim knowledge of, responsibility for, or association with". It should be clear to you now what Obama's church meant by "disavowal of the pursuit of middleclassness".
Here is the point that I would normally direct you to Obama's church's website and let you view its basic tenets for yourself. Just so you can see that I'm not BSing you. Alas, that web page listing those tenets has been removed (The work of Obama's "truth squad"?). But the tenets of that church during Obama's attendance are well documented. They were on the church website earlier this year and served as the church's tenets for the entirety of the time Obama worshiped there. As they are part of the "Black Value System", they were as follows:
1. Commitment to GodNumber 8, the one at issue, is no longer one of the stated tenets of the church. It has been removed. But it did exist. Again, it served as one of the points of the church for the entire time Obama worshiped under Jerimiah Right, his spiritual mentor. Here's proof. And here's even better proof.
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect

9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community

Now, if you take Obama's worship at a church that has as one of its basic points the "disavowal of the pursuit of 'middleclassness'", and you throw it in a pot with the thoughts of his communist mentor Frank Davis and his and his socialist associate Saul Alinsky, and then you add a dash of resentment and condescension for bitter, bible clinging, gun toting types, you really start to get a better picture of exactly what Obama thinks about the middle class. Which is, that he doesn't believe it should exist.
America! Here is a man who is running around the country telling anyone who will listen that HE is the one who is fighting for the middle class. Which, given the above, comes as quite a surprise. After all, he had 20 years to get point 8 removed from his own church's tenets. He did nothing. He had 20 years to tell his congregation that killing the middle class is not such a good idea. Instead, he showed up to church on Sundays and said nothing. And we're now supposed to believe he is our greatest defender? Wolf...sheep's clothing. Y'all know the story. Don't get eaten.
ANOTHER OBAMA GAFFE THE MAINSTREAM PRESS WON'T TOUCH

If we're lucky and do it right, that could potentially happen but in the short term there's an outlay and we may not see that money for a while.
Obama is talking about the present bailout that will return a profit - only problem is that FDR never did such a thing. And don't even get me started on the "we' holding" ghetto speak.

Out of desperation, much of the continent is selling itself into a new era of corruption and virtual slavery as China seeks to buy up all the metals, minerals and oil she can lay her hands on: copper for electric and telephone cables, cobalt for mobile phones and jet engines - the basic raw materials of modern life.
It is crude rapacity, but to Africans and many of their leaders it is better than the alternative, which is slow starvation.
It is my view - and not just because I was so nearly killed - that China's cynical new version of imperialism in Africa is a wicked enterprise.

CHINESE FARMER SENT TO PRISON FOR FAKING PHOTO OF A RARE TIGER
Well...it was a pretty bad fake (See left).
A Chinese farmer who claimed to have taken photos of a rare tiger was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on Saturday for faking the pictures, a court official and state media said.
Zhou Zhenglong was tried for fraud in Xunyang County People's Court in Shaanxi province Saturday morning and was sentenced a little over five hours later, the Xinhua News Agency said.
An official who answered the telephone at the court said in addition to the prison sentence, Zhou was also fined $290. She refused to give her name or any other details.
According to official media accounts, Zhou, aged 54, heard that a reward of about $146,000 had been offered to anyone who found an endangered South China tiger in the wild, where one had not been seen for more than 20 years.
Last October, he emerged from the woods in Shaanxi with his claim of a tiger sighting, plus dozens of digital photos. The provincial forestry department rewarded him with $2,900.

US forces detained five members of the Hezbollah Brigades in Baghdad on Saturday as part of a renewed push to blunt the return of Iranian-backed Shia terror groups reentering Iraq. The Iraqi and US military have stepped up operations against the Special Groups over the past two weeks. Iraqi and US forces killed two Special Groups fighters and captured 107 since Sept. 16.
The latest series of raids in Baghdad netted five members of the Hezbollah Brigades in New Baghdad, a former stronghold of Muqtada al Sadr's Mahdi Army. The Hezbollah Brigades is an Iranian-backed terror group that has been behind multiple roadside bombings and rocket attacks against US and Iraqi forces in Baghdad. The group films these attacks and posts them on the internet. More than 30 Hezbollah Brigades operatives have been captured over the past two months. The group is estimated at having several hundred members.
The US military says Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah have helped establish, fund, train, and arm, and have provided operational support for Shia terror groups such as the Hezbollah Brigades and the League of the Righteous. The US military refers to these groups as well as the Iranian-backed elements of the Mahdi Army as the "Special Groups." These groups train in camps inside Iran. The US Treasury Department placed sanctions on a senior Iranian general and a Mahdi Army commander for arming, training, and funding Shia terror groups in Iraq on Sept. 16.
Recently an Iraqi police chief said Special Groups fighters and leaders were beginning to return into Iraq from bases in Iran.
"The Special Groups are returning from Iran after receiving training in using new tactics," Brigadier General Sabah al Fatlawi, the chief of police in the southern province of Dhi Qhar, told AFP on Sept. 16. "We have seized 20 motorcycle bombs in Nasiriyah. Some groups have arrived in Nasiriyah ... They are crossing the border through Amarah." Amarah borders Iran and served as the Mahdi Army and Special Group's headquarters in the South.

Obama: Fails to answer the question. Fails to mention any specifics of his plan. Instead gives Democrat talking points and blames Bush.
McCain: Gives a shout out to Teddy Kennedy. Talks about Bi-partisanship. Fails to answer the question.

Obama: Still fails to answer the question. Claims he warned everyone it was going to happen. Blames Bush.
McCain: Says he'll vote for the plan. References Eisenhower and speaks to accountability being non-existent in Washington.
At this point, in my opinion, both of these guys, seem clueless on the financial crisis. Obama, never answered the question.
McCain: Hammers Obama on his nearly billion dollars in earmarks. Obama responds with the standby McCain wants to cut taxes for corporations and blames Bush.
Question: What do you intend to give up in your administration due to the lost revenue from the bailout costs?
Obama: Totally dodges question. Offers a bunch of platitudes about energy independence and education that had nothing to do with the question.
McCain: Do away with wasteful spending, cost plus contracts. Examine every agency of government and eliminate those that suck.
Follow up: Dude's, what are you going to do in a major way? What are you going to give up if you're President?
Obama: Again doesn't answer question, says we need energy independence, and then adopts McCain's answer regarding cutting spending as his own.
McCain: Proffers spending freeze.
Obama: Get out of Iraq.
McCain: Go with nuclear power.

Obama: There's going to be less tax revenue, and I'm going to have make tough decisions. But doesn't say what they're going to be.
McCain: Cancel Obama's spending programs. Grow the economy, with lower taxes.

McCain: Speaks to his record of bi-partisanship. I'm a maverick.
Question: What are the lessons are Iraq?
McCain: You cannot have a failed strategy that will lead to defeat. Takes credit for the surge. We will come home with honor and victory. We now have an ally in the Middle East.
Obama: I opposed this war. Should have finished the job in Afghanistan. I was right and everyone else was wrong. Says Al Qaeda stronger now than ever. We should take Iraq's money. Use military wisely.

McCain: We cannot allow Iran to have nukes. Sanctions need to be stepped up. Make no doubt that Iran is a threat to the world.
Obama: Thinks Iran's Republican Guard is a terrorist organization. Iraq strengthened Iran. Israel is our ally. We need tougher sanctions.
McCain: Hammers Obama for wanting to talk to dictators without preconditions.
Obama: I would sit down with Iran's mullahs cause they have all the powers. I never meant preconditions, I meant we would have preparations before talks.
McCain: Calls Obama on lies about meeting without preconditions. Trust but verify.
Obama: Says he never said with preconditions without preparations. This is not true. We've reported on this before here at The Big Feed.
Question: How do see relationship with Russia?
Obama: Russian approach needs to be re-evaluated. Georgia actions unacceptable. Must adhere to ceasefire. Can't return to Cold War posture. Goes into no detail about the region.
McCain: Hammers Obama for saying both sides need to show restraint. Russia is nothing but a KGB state. Georgia conflict about energy. Obama didn't know that. He's naive. Russia has to understand the inclusion of Georgia and Ukraine is American policy. I've been to Georgia. Obama hasn't. We will work with Russia but they have to respect international values. Goes into great detail about the situation in the Caucuses.
Obama: Agrees with everything McCain said. Claims he warned administration about Russian peace keepers in Georgian territory. Must increase domestic energy independence. Says he has a plan. Doesn't say what it is.
McCain: Democrats have blocked off shore drilling for years.
Question: What is possibility of another 9-11 attack in the US.
McCain: Less likely. Human intelligence needs to be sharpened. Work closer with allies. Safer, but we have a long way to go. Increase border security.
Obama: Safer in some ways. Guard chemical sites and ports. Suitcase bombs a threat. Need missile defense. Have to be perceived in the world better. Credits McCain on torture issue.
McCain: We don't need a president getting on the job training in office.
Obama: My father was from Kenya, in the 60s he thought America was great, it's not so great anymore. Americans suck. I can make it great. (Asshole!).

McCain showed superior command of the details on all issues. Details Obama seemed incapable of speaking to. McCain gets the importance of energy security, Obama seems to not think it's even an issue. Obama spent most of the night speaking in broad platitudes. McCain impressed me a great deal by calling Russia exactly what it is, a KGB apparatus. That was a real blockbuster regarding the most central foreign policy issue in play. No doubt he carried this debate. Made Obama look like the foreign policy neophyte he is.
McCain got under Obama's skin and got him flustered several times. Obama seemed to agree with McCain an awful lot (8 times officially). Obama looked like an idiot with all the smirking and huffing and puffing and interrupting of McCain.

This, in my opinion, is nothing other than some high level Obama supporters trying to intimidate any dissenters of Obama into silence. It certainly fits the new Obama model as evidenced by his recent attempts to silence the NRA in Pennsylvania and Ohio:
In 1964, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark decision, New York Times vs Sullivan, that set the benchmark for libel vis-a-vis “public figures,” of which Barack Obama is certainly one. If a public figure brings a civil libel lawsuit against an individual or a group, then s/he has to prove to a civil jury (usually nine out of twelve jurors) that a preponderance of the evidence (i.e. it is more likely than not) shows that the defendant(s) knowingly said or wrote something factually incorrect about the plaintiff(s). If a prosecutorial authority brings criminal libel charges against a defendant on behalf of a plaintiff, as McCulloch and Joyce are threatening to do, then the prosecutor has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt to twelve out of twelve jurors that the defendant knowingly said or wrote something factually incorrect about the defendant.
The two key concepts here are “knowingly” and “factual.” Successful civil libel lawsuits brought by public figures are exceedingly rare, because it’s very difficult to prove that the defendant “knowingly” said or wrote something factually incorrect. Criminal libel prosecutions thereof, because they require a unanimous jury and a higher legal standard of proof, are virtually impossible.
As for “factual,” it means that the statement made cannot relate to an opinion. If you say that Barack Obama isn’t really a Christian, that’s not a statement of fact, because religion is mostly subjective. The Catholic Church still really doesn’t consider Protestants to be Christians, and in some cases, some radical Protestants don’t think that Catholics are really Christians. Therefore, if one says that Barack Obama isn’t a Christian, it isn’t actionable, because it’s somebody’s opinion. Now, if Obama were a Catholic, and really was Confirmed as such, and someone for whom that it can be proven does know he is a Confirmed Catholic goes out and says that he isn’t, that’s actionable. The reason is that Confirmation in the Catholic Church is (usually) provable by ecclesiastical records.
In other words, virtually nobody that levels criticism at Barack Obama can be charged criminally for doing so.
However, in the opinion of this writer, Bob McCulloch and Jennifer Joyce are, at the behest of the Obama campaign, ratting sabers to intimidate people from criticizing Obama. If my contention is correct, then if anyone will face civil or maybe criminal liability from the U.S. Justice Department, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in St. Louis, it’s McCulloch and Joyce themselves. It is not beyond the realm of possibility, in my opinion, that their threats violated Federal Civil Rights laws, two public authorities might well be forcing a “chilling effect” on 1st Amendent free speech. If Barack Obama or any of his people have any fingerprints on this, they could be sent up the river as well.
The Obama campaign has written radio stations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, pressing them to refuse to air an ad from the National Rifle Association.It also is consistent with Obama's truth squads that were dispatched during the primary against Hillary Clinton in South Carolina. Obama has also dispatched his "truth squad" goons in Pennsylvania, Indiana, California, and North Carolina.
"This advertisement knowingly misleads your viewing audience about Senator Obama's position on the Second Amendment," says the letter from Obama general counsel Bob Bauer. "For the sake of both FCC licensing requirements and the public interest, your station should refuse to continue to air this advertisement."
NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam, who provided the letter, said it shows clear evidence that the ads are "hurting him," and stood by their substance. He also provided a copy of the NRA's own letter to the stations and memo disputing the Post story, after the jump. He also said the ad is running only in Pennsylvania at the moment.

At a time when Americans are faced with perhaps the most dire financial crisis facing the country in decades, it’s a tale of two vastly different priorities: Senator Barack Obama gave a speech today in Clearwater, Florida, outlining his goals if elected President: two of which where global, met by 2015, and paid for by American taxpayers to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, while Senator McCain was in Washington working with the Congress on solving the financial crisis.
This isn’t some “nebulous” plan dreamed up by Obama, it’s an actual bill, the Global Poverty Act, (S2433), written and sponsored by the Senator from Illinois. In February, Senator Biden, Obama’s running mate, rushed the bill through his Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The bill was then recommended to be put before the Senate. On April 24 the bill was placed on Senate Legislatived Calender.
“The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.”
As American taxpayers well know, foreign aid has been part and parcel of United States largess for decades. Dr. Mark W. Hendrickson addresses the difference between foreign aid and foreign investment in regards to the Obama bill:
“Nowhere in the world can we point to a country that has escaped poverty through foreign aid—in spite of more than $2 trillion of foreign aid spending so far. Tragically, in some African countries that have received billions of dollars in aid, standards of living have deteriorated rather than improved in recent decades. As celebrity economist Jeffrey Sachs has written, the majority of foreign aid gets siphoned off to service old debts, pay for expensive consultants, fund emergency humanitarian relief, or to Swiss bank accounts. Of the remaining “aid,” much often goes to U.S. multinational corporations (corporate welfare?) who are contracted to construct dams, airports, highways, buildings, etc. Many of those projects are no more than “white elephants”—extravagant monuments to vain leaders that do little to foster economic development.”

The country's official news agency Xinhua posted the article on its Web site Thursday, and remained there for much of the day before it was taken down.
A staffer from the Xinhuanet.com Web site who answered the phone Thursday said the posting of the article was a "technical error" by a technician. The staffer refused to give his name as is common among Chinese officials.
The arcticle, dated two days from now on Sept. 27, vividly described the rocket in flight, complete with a sharply detailed dialogue between the three astronauts.

Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid has decided to sneak an extension of the oil shale ban through as Congress fights over the financial bailout. Oil shale in America's West is estimated to hold be between 800 billion and 2 trillion barrels of oil -- that is more than three times the proven oil reserves in Saudi Arabia alone.
Here is the text of Reid's proposed new ban on oil shale, that he is trying to add as an amendment to the CR or move seperately as a "stimulus" package, or we should say an anti-stimulus package if this is included.
Sec 1602 continues ban on oil shale. The language follows:
SEC. 1602. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, including section 152 of division A of H.R. 2638 (110th Congress), the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2009, the terms and conditions contained in section 433 of division F of Public Law 110–161 shall remain in effect for the 19 fiscal year ending September 30, 2009.
It would be an insult to all Americans if Senate Democrats worked to bailout Wall Street while damaging our future prosperity by banning development of vast energy reserves in oil shale.
ZOGBY POLL: McCAIN MOVES BACK AHEAD

Both surveys of likely voters nationwide were conducted using Zogby's online polling technology, which has proven accurate in national and statewide races dating back to 2004.

Captain Kirk orders the transporter room to lock on the passengers and beam them aboard immediately. As the Aurora explodes, the six humanoid passengers are safely brought aboard the Enterprise. Kirk heads down to meet with them and is shocked by their wild appearance. The six beings are barefoot, dressed in lavish robes and colorful tunics. Despite their close brush with death, they appear completely calm and relaxed as if nothing has happened.
The group identifies themselves, starting with Tongo Rad, (the son of the Catuallan ambassador, and whose presence must be handled carefully, owing to the delicate relationship between the Federation and the people of Catualla), Irina Galliulin (a Starfleet Academy dropout and a former love interest of Mr. Chekov's), Dr. Sevrin (a noted communications and electronics researcher from Tiburon, who specializes in the theories of sonic manipulation), Adam (a popular musician), Mavig (the blonde who later sings with Adam) and another, unidentified woman.
The group quickly shows a disrespect for authority and demands to be taken to a planet they call "Eden" (a reference to Garden of Eden). Eden's existence is believed to be a myth however. The group refuses to cooperate with Kirk, calling him "Herbert", an insulting reference to his rigid and limited ideals.
The group is impressed by Mr. Spock however, who gestures with an oval "symbol of peace" the party makes with raised hands, and speaks of "The One".
From the history books, it turns out that the "Sign of Progress" was borrowed from none other than Adolf Hitler himself. This was found at German Propaganda Archive. As the photo is described on that site:
"The hands of the Führer organize his speech. This picture captures Hitler's hands as he speaks of the unity of the National Socialist and socialist ideas."
A sign of progress? A sign of unity? Or, as others have proffered, with respect to Hitler's use of this hand gesture, a sublimation of the instinctual need of masturbation? A subconscious representation of the vagina?

When Obama refers to “my Muslim faith,” the verbal gaffe resonates as a Freudian slip because of Obama’s thinly veiled hatred for this country’s unique culture and institutions. Obama sat for 20 years in a church where the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr preached “goddamn America.” He only resigned from the congregation when it became politically expedient to do so.
When earlier this year, Michelle Obama said “for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” can we conclude that her husband disagrees? Is it not remarkable that Michelle Obama can be so small-minded as to find nothing in the history of the United States that merits her admiration but the personal success of her husband?
What is Barack Obama for? His campaign motto is “change.” But even a 6-year-old child understands that “change” can be either good or bad. Lacking specifics, the invocation of “change” as policy is completely empty. As we witness Obama’s minions mindlessly endorse the meaningless maxim of “change,” it only can call to mind the barnyard animals in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” chanting “four legs good, two legs bad!”
The choice of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate has been devastating for the Obama campaign precisely because she is everything Obama is not. Palin is not ashamed of her culture or country. She is not embarrassed by being an American, but naively embraces her birthright. Unassisted by affirmative action, Palin has risen to national prominence on the basis of her character, intelligence and natural gifts. In a word, she has guts. This is a woman who is proud of her country, not because it has granted her personal success, but because she respects what America stands for: freedom, opportunity, and individualism.Obama is a vapid demagogue, a hollow man that despises American culture. He is ill-suited to be president of the United States. As the weeks pass, more Americans will come to this realization and elect McCain/Palin in a landslide.

UPDATE: President Bush has issued an invitation to Obama to return to Washington (Has Obama ever even been there?) to discuss the financial crisis. Obama has accepted. Not sure why. His initial decision not to return should tell anyone who is interested that he has nothing of substance to offer.

A tense standoff is underway in northeastern Somalia between pirates, Somali authorities, and Iran over a suspicious merchant vessel and its mysterious cargo. Hijacked late last month in the Gulf of Aden, the MV Iran Deyanat remains moored offshore in Somali waters and inaccessible for inspection. Its declared cargo consists of minerals and industrial products, however, Somali and regional officials directly involved in the negotiations over the ship and who spoke to The Long War Journal are convinced that it was heading to Eritrea to deliver small arms and chemical weapons to Somalia's Islamist insurgents.
The MV Iran Deyanat is owned and operated by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) - a state-owned company run by the Iranian military that was sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury on September 10, shortly after the ship's hijacking. According to the U.S. Government, the company regularly falsifies shipping documents in order to hide the identity of end users, uses generic terms to describe shipments to avoid the attention of shipping authorities, and employs the use of cover entities to circumvent United Nations sanctions to facilitate weapons proliferation for the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
The MV Iran Deyanat set sail from Nanjing, China, at the end of July and, according to its manifest, planned to travel to Rotterdam, where it would unload 42,500 tons of iron ore and "industrial products" purchased by a German client. Its arrival in the Gulf of Aden, Somali officials tell The Long War Journal, was suspiciously early.
Suspicion has also been cast on the ship's crew, half of which is almost entirely staffed by Iranians - a large percentage of Iranian nationals for a standard merchant vessel.
The MV Iran Deyanat was brought to Eyl, a sleepy fishing village in northeastern Somalia, and was secured by a larger gang of pirates - 50 onboard and 50 onshore. Within days, pirates who had boarded the ship developed strange health complications, skin burns and loss of hair. Independent sources tell The Long War Journal that a number of pirates have also died.
The syndicate set the ship's ransom at $2 million and the Iranian government provided $200,000 to a local broker "to facilitate the exchange." Iran refutes that it agreed to the price and has paid any money to the pirates. Nevertheless, after sanctions were applied to IRISL on September 10, Osman says, the Iranians told the pirates that the deal was off. "They told the pirates that they could not come because of the presence of the U.S. Navy." The region is patrolled by the multinational Combined Taskforce 150, which includes ships from the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet.
In a strange twist, the Iranian press claims that the U.S. has offered to pay a $7 million bribe to the pirates to "receive entry permission and search the vessel." Officials in the Pentagon and the Department of State approached for this story refused to comment on the situation.
The exact nature of the cargo remains a mystery but officials in Puntland and Baidoa are convinced the ship was carrying weapons to Eritrea for Islamist insurgents. "We cannot inspect the cargo yet," Osman said, "but we are sure that it is weapons."
