Figures. It's a foreign breed. From Fox News:
The Obamas are getting their new dog in a matter of weeks. And they
have come to some important decisions.
First off, the breed.
First Lady Michelle Obama told People Magazine that the the family
wants to find a rescue Portuguese Water dog.
"Temperamentally they're supposed to be pretty good," she said. "From
the size perspective, they're sort of middle of the road - it's not
small, but it's not a huge dog. And the folks that we know who own
them have raved about them. So that's where we're leaning."

Funny thing, Google the Portuguese Water dog and under images they all have the wool pulled over their eyes.
