Tamil Tiger Caught on Film Blowing Himself Up

Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels killed at least ten people and wounded more than 40, including several Sri Lankan ministers in a suicide bomb attack on a Muslim celebration.

The suicide bomber had approached the ministers on a bicycle before the explosion which killed three local politicians and three students.

A military spokesman said: "definitely it's LTTE (Tamil Tigers)."

The attack took place shortly before a senior health official in the Northern war zone revealed at least 49 civilians had been killed as fighting intensified between government troops and Tamil Tigers fighting to hold their last stronghold on the island. Dr. Thurairaja Varatharajah said 218 civilians had died from their injuries in the last ten days at his makeshift hospital.
